The Role

Love the countryside? Handy with a toolkit? Want to be part of a supportive, purpose-driven community?

Dovecote School is looking for a Caretaker to join our wonderful independent SEN school, nestled in the heart of rural Somerset. This isn’t just a job—it’s an opportunity to be part of something truly meaningful.

As a live-in caretaker, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our school safe, functional, and welcoming for our incredible students and staff. You’ll fix things, solve problems, and make a real difference every day—whether it’s keeping the buildings in top shape, making sure the grounds look their best, or responding to the occasional late-night alarm (because, let’s face it, that’s all part of the fun!).

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Hands-on maintenance – Fixing, repairing, and keeping everything running smoothly.
  • Security & safety – Being the keyholder and making sure everything stays safe and sound.
  • Grounds & building upkeep – Helping our school look its absolute best!
  • Occasional driving – Supporting school transport when needed.
  • Sustainability & efficiency – Helping us be greener and more cost-effective.

Why You’ll Love It Here:

  • Live-in accommodation included! No commute—just a beautiful rural setting to call home.
  • A role with purpose – Be part of an independent SEN school that supports students with SEMH, ASD, ASC, PDA, trauma, and complex needs.
  • A variety of work – No two days are ever the same!
  • A supportive community – Work with a passionate, friendly team who care about making a difference.
  • A chance to make a real impact – Your work will directly contribute to creating a safe and nurturing environment for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

What We’re Looking For:

  • A practical, hands-on problem-solver with DIY & maintenance skills.
  • Someone who understands Health & Safety regulations.
  • A great communicator who can work independently and as part of a team.
  • A full UK driving licence holder.
  • Bonus points for experience in education, SEN, or facilities management!
  • Ready to Apply?

We can’t wait to hear from you! If you’d love a role where you can live, work, and truly make a difference, apply today and become a valued part of the Dovecote School family.
